Norfolk – Hampton Roads Chassis Pool (HRCP) will become the sole provider of chassis at The Port of Virginia beginning Feb. 1, as Direct Chassis Link Inc. (DCLI), also a provider of chassis for the port, will be exiting the market for chassis pool operations.
"This will make it easier for motor carriers, because now they only need to go to one source to get a chassis," said Artie Ellermann, general manager of HRCP. "We believe this move will reduce some confusion and provide convenience to drivers on a couple of different levels."
Effective Feb. 1, DCLI will no longer offer chassis for use in conjunction with moves sourcing to and from any location currently serviced by HRCP. On that date, all DCLI locations in Norfolk/Portsmouth will be closed.
The following conditions will apply beginning Feb. 1:
- DCLI will have no chassis available in the Norfolk/Portsmouth market
- Should a DCLI chassis be taken into the Norfolk/Portsmouth area it will need to be returned to its point of origin. No termination of DCLI equipment in Norfolk will be possible.
- If the chassis is not returned and is left in Norfolk/Portsmouth the driver will be billed a migration fee of $750 per chassis, in addition to any applicable storage and gate charges applied by the terminals.
