Norfolk – The MV Tonsberg, the world's newest and largest roll-on, roll-off ship is scheduled to arrive at Newport News Marine Terminal on Saturday, April 30. The vessel, which has nine decks to carry vehicles, is 870 feet long and 105 feet wide. The vehicles are driven on and off the ship via a stern ramp that folds down from a stowed position.
The MV Tonsberg was built to handle high and heavy cargo such as excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders and harvesters Built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan, the ship has three decks that can be adjusted up or down to accommodate different kinds of equipment. The vessel's rear loading ramp has a capacity of 505 tons.
